Q'Saliva and the Alchemy of Curve and Beat
Umbanda, samba, baião, funk, hip hop, electronic and synthetic sound beats from MPC. A myriad of different tone colors to serve cells that frame layers of vertical compositions. An instrument adds to another and creates a true commitment to the melody.
It was during carnival, the annual culminate point of samba, that the group Q'Saliva has paraded its original accessories for the first time. It did not happen in any large samba avenue, in any neighbourhood ball, or street performance. The trio of musicians actually locked themselves in a small farm, in the countrysides of São Paulo, and only left after accomplishing the very one goal: transforming MPB (Brazillian Popular Music) into the electronic vibe and vice versa.
Felipe Pegoraro, Ligia Kamada and Pablo Casella, the musketters from Q'Saliva, all with more than 10 years scholarship and experience in both classic and popular music, have found that path. The results of it do not refer back to the fashion of soft Brazillian chansons with the background of computerized drum sets. In the CD 'dela', recorded independently only with six hand compositions, we can listen to ten themes which make from the Brazillian curves and electronic calculus an organic synthesis. The tunes of tamborins and guitars texturize and colour themselves out of the dance floor. The house and electro-funk become live in the hand claps, triangles, match boxes and even the miaus of a female cat. Teodora, the feline, is not the only special participation in the act. Hugo Hori (flute e sax), Betinho Sodré (cuíca), Flavio Ianuzi (keyboards and trumpet), Henrique Migliano (base) and Fernandão (berimbau) also add some spices to this dish. On May 20th 2005, the group traveled to Europe with all the instruments they were able to take with them and a suitcase full of CDs from their first work together in the band. This adventure resulted in five months of shows, traveling and all the CDs were sold.
The band played in night clubs, bars, parties and traditional spaces such as 'Paradiso' in Amsterdam and in big festivals like 'Leffingeleuren' (Ostende - Belgium) and 'Supernatural' (Utrecht-Netherlands).
When back in Brazil, they brought new songs in the baggage and they were craving to play again in their own country. The current band is formed by Pablo Casella (guitar, cavaquinho, percussion and voice), (Pipo) Felipe Pegoraro (MPC, guitar and voice, Vitor Guy (drums), and Daniel 'Gralha' (trumpet). The sound from Q'saliva has matured. The music played in the first CD became stronger with live performances and the new compositions enhance poetry, vocals and a huge sound diversity.
